February 22nd-26th

General Announcements:
  • BOX TOP COLLECTION: Make sure you label the BOX TOPS with your child's name and homeroom teacher's name.   Prizes will be drawn in March. Thank you for your AWESOME support of this easy school fundraiser
  • Reading Rally Books: The kids have been challenged to read 6 chapter books that the school highlighted at our Reading Rally a few weeks ago. I am encouraging them to read a lot at home and bring them back to school to trade out for the next book. This challenge has been a lot of fun so far and the kids are excited about what they are reading!
  • Looking ahead: Spring Pictures will be March 1st. 
Language Arts:
  • We are finishing a narrative writing unit. The kids are writing a personal narrative and have done a great job diving into the story and thinking like a writer. We will finish our final drafts on Friday.
  • The article "How George Washington did his hair" was assigned on Tween Tribune last Friday and is due on Friday, February 26th. Students will need to read the article and answer the 3 questions that go along with it. We practiced opening a separate window with the the quiz so that they can easily go back and check their answers, is it is only a 3 question quiz. The assignment is a 10 point homework grade. Because the website will not allow them to retake a quiz, they may read and take other articles and quizzes to average with their score.
  • Spotlight reader will take place on Friday, February 26th as well. The students will need to bring the book of choice they are reading to school be prepared to present the following: book title, author, main characters, basic plot, and a teacher question of choice. I will be choosing students at random, so everyone needs to be prepared!
  • The Greek and Latin roots homework will come home today and be due on Thursday, February 25th. We will have a Greek and Latin roots test on Friday, February 26th.
  • Grammar IXL skills AA.1, AA.2, BB.1, and CC.1 (Level G) are due Friday, February 26th.
Social Studies:
  • This week's Unit of study is Westward Expansion. We will be discussing Lewis and Clark's expedition and creating a Google Tour. Next week, we will discussing the different western trails.
Math:
  • We are continuing our Multiplication of fractions using models and solving real-world problems.
  • Cumulative Review #18 came home today! Here is a link Cumulative Review #18
  • New IXL activities were assigned and are due next Monday. This week's activities are Level G: M4, M6, M7, and M12. 
  • There will be a Cumulative Review Test on Friday!
Science:
  • We are learning about the Physical and Chemical Properties of Matter. We are still working on our labs involving Chemical and Physical properties this week.  
  • We will have a quiz on Chemical and Physical Changes on Thursday! Students should review their notes from their science notebooks!  
  • Grades will be also taken for Science notebook and our lab activities.

General Announcements:

  • Valentine Grams are sale in the lunchroom 7:30-7:40 A.M. this week through Thursday. Valentine  Grams come with a bracelet,of your choice,and are $1.00 each. Please bring in $1.00 cash, not coins. Make sure you know the homeroom of the student  to whom you are sending the gram.
  • Our classes will be exchanging Valentines and/or candy on February 12th.  We will also plan to have a special snack on this day. Please see the sign up genius if you would like to send something.

  • February 15th-16th -                Presidents’ Day Holiday-                  Students Out of school           District Professional Development for teachers.
Language Arts:
  • We are transitioning to a narrative writing unit. The students will be writing a personal memoir; this is a fun unit! The students will be brain storming this week and talking about ways to find ideas for a great story. I am looking forward to hearing their wonderful thoughts! We will be looking at our favorite books for ideas on Thursday so please help your child check out or bring their favorite book to school!

February 1st-5th

General Announcements:

  • Zaxby's fundraiser night is TONIGHT-Tuesday, February 2nd from 5-9 PM.
  • Hoover City Schools Rezoning Proposal Unveiling Meeting-Thursday, February 4th at 6:00 at Metropolitan Church of God.
  • Valentine Grams will be on sale from Thursday, Feb. 4-Thursday, Feb. 11 in the lunchroom beginning at 7:30. Grams will come with a bracelet, of your choice, and are $1.00 each. Please bring in cash, not coins. We ask that you come knowing the homeroom and the name of the person you are sending the gram to.

  • We are reading "A Game of Catch" this week. We will be comparing and contrasting the 3 characters in the story. We will have a Comprehension and Vocabulary test Friday, February 5th using a story they have never read before.

Students will need to read the article and answer the 3 questions that go along with it. Social Studies:
  • We are closing our study of the creation of the United States government this week with a New Government test on Tuesday, February 2nd.
  • The study guide went home last Thursday and will be posted on google classroom social studies. I have created a quizlet for the kids to practice.
Math:
  • We are continuing our practice of adding and subtracting decimals multiplying and dividing decimals by the powers of 10.  
  • We will have our Decimals end of Unit TEST this FRIDAY.
  • DECIMALS Unit Study Guide came home today and is DUE WEDNESDAY. We will be reviewing every day in class this week. We will go over each problem on the study guide in class Wednesday/Thursday. Here is the Link to the Decimal Unit Study Guide

  • We are learning about the Physical and Chemical Properties of Matter. We plan to do a couple of labs involving Chemical and Physical properties this week.  
  • Grades will be taken on Science notebook activities and our lab.
